Chapter One

September 1993

Jess - "I don't think I've ever been this excited in my whole life."

Chris - "Well I've been wanting to take you for a few years now but your dad always said you were too young."

Jess - "So what's the game plan?"

Chris - "I have to be there early like around three so I'll send a car for you around 6:30, 7 o'clock. How's that sound?"

Jess - "Good. Thank you Uncle Chris." Loren throws a pillow at her. "Oh Uncle Chris can I ask a favor?"

Chris - "Sure sweetie anything."

Jess - "Can I bring Loren?"

Chris - "I was planning on it."

Jess - "You're the best uncle in the whole world."

Chris - "Yeah okay."

Jess - "No really you are."

Chris - "Okay well I got to go sweetie I'll see you next week." She says good bye and turns to Loren.

Jess - "We have so got to go shopping."

Loren - "Okay let me get my shoes. Oh we can look for some new doorknobs while were out."

They had moved in to their new apartment a month ago and where still getting stuff straighten out. Their parents had bought them a loft uptown but it needed serious work. Loren had been living in a sorority house and Jessica had been at her parents since she graduated a year early and wasn't old enough to stay on campus. But finally they were out on their own and living it up. Class had just started two days ago so the girls weren't over load with schoolwork yet. They headed down to the garage and got in Loren's silver BMW convertible. It was her mom's so it was a couple years old but hey beggars can't be choosers right. After putting the top down and they waved to Tommy the garage security guard on the way out.

Jess - "So what to we wear to an awards show?"

Loren - "I'm not sure. Lets swing over to So-Ho and check out the shops there."

Jess - "Okay, oh maybe we can call Todd (Oldham), and see if he can give us some hints."

Loren - "He's over in London. I'll e-mail him when we get home."

They spent all afternoon shopping. And found nothing but some great old towel racks and knobs for the kitchen cabinets at this store that look like a huge junk warehouse from the outside. So they gave up and just went to Saks, to window shop.
