Suz - "Thanks. Hey maybe you can come in and see the baby."

Abby - "That would be so cool. I'll see you then."  She hangs up.  They go downstairs to the stuffed animal section.  There is a bit of a line and Abby doesn't feel like waiting.  "Ugh. Simon will you pay for those and then take them home for me."

Simon - "And what will you be doing?"

Abby - "I'm going to go over to Suzanna's doctors office awhile."

Simon - "By yourself.  I don't think so."

Abby - "I won't be by myself I'll have Paul. I'm just going to the doctors. No side trips I promise."

Simon - "I dont know..."

Abby - "Thanks Simon."  She kiss his cheek and gives him money.  Walking through the mall by herself was a weird feeling.  She had Simon with her for the better part of two years.  She picked up the pace a little and was grateful when she was seated in the back seat of the car.

Simon lugged the stuffed animals to the taxi stand and grumbled as he threw them inside.  This was the last thing he wanted to do today.  All morning he had felt there was a black cloud hanging over the city.  Not that he was superstious but he hated when he couldn't get rid of feelings like this. The cab dropped him at the house and he paid the driver. He dropped the stuffed animals off in Abby's room.  He noticed that she had left the door to her balcony open so he went over to close it.

Joey - "I really don't like this."

Lance - "I don't either but its what has to be done."

Joey - "But its wrong families are suppose to be untouchable.  She's pregnant for crying out."

Lance - "Look its too late to start having a morality attack. Alex has orders to avoid her if at all possible. But Kevin has to be taken out. Its the signal that Sonny wants to send the Mazzagotti's."

Simon has heard enough he runs down the stairs and takes off in someone's car.  He speeds the whole way there.

Dr. Corday - "And if you look close right here you can see the penis." Abby's holding her sister's hand.

Suz - "Its a boy."  They are both almost crying.

Abby - "Kevin's going to be so happy."

Suz - "I'm going to have a son."

Dr. Corday - "I'm just glad he got over his shyness and finally let us see his face."

Suz - "Me too. I was tired of getting kicked in the back."

Dr. Corday - "Everything seems to be going fine." She turns off the machine and gets Suzanna's chart. "So we'll see you back here in a week."

Suz - "okay I hope Kevin can stay next time."

Dr. Corday - "Go ahead and get dressed while I make the appointment for you."  She leaves and Suzanna gets dressed.

Abby - "You have got to be happy. A boy."

Suz - "I know Kevin so wanted a son."  They walk out and the receptionist gives her the appointment card.  They go down in the elevator with Suzanna's shadow close behind.  He's this huge guy named Brice. "I can't wait to tell Kevin."

Abby - "Just think you can go to little league games be a den mother."

Suz - "Oh yeah that would be good. I'd be the only one to cater a baseball practice."  Abby opens the glass door of the office building and step outside.  Suzanna is behind Abby with Brice right at her arm.  A car comes speeding down the street.  "What the hell?"

Brice grabs her arm and is about to take Suzanna back inside when the shots start.  Suzanna gets hit three times and falls to the ground.  Even though Brice gets hit a multitude of times he is able to get her back inside.  Abby is a little further out on the sidewalk so he can't reach her.  From growing up the way she did the first thing she does is duck and look for some thing to get behind.  The car stops and Simon jumps out.  He grabs her under the arms and runs to the entrance.  He gets shot in the back of the leg.  He pushes her behind a planter and turns drawling his gun.  He gets shot again this time in the stomach and then once more in his throat.  He falls to the ground and doesn't move.

Its quiet Abby hears a car come up someone jump in and then speed away.  She peeks out from her hiding place.  Brice had taken Suzanna upstairs to the doctors office.  Simon is lying on the sidewalk not moving.

Abby - "Simon?"  His hand twitches.  "Oh my god."  Not thinking about her own safety she runs over to him.  "Simon?"  He opens his eyes and looks up at her.  She rests his head in her lap.  His eyes are glassy but after a minute he is able to focus on Abby.  "Just lay still help is coming okay." He shakes his head. "You're not going to die." He tries to talk. "Don't talk."

He glares at Abby to silence her.  "be careful... don't trust Joey... with each other... Chicago..."  He reached up to take her hand.

Abby - "No Simon please don't die.  I'm sorry for all the times I didn't listen to you I'll do everything you say just don't die on me okay. I need you to keep me safe. Please don't go."  Abby takes his hand and holds it to her cheeks as the tears roll down and land on his face.

Simon - "I'm sorry, I can't stay.  Be careful and stay safe."  His eyes are still open but she can tell he's gone.  Abby reaches over and closes his eyes and leans down and kisses his forehead.

Abby - "If you can hear me. You were my best friend and I'll never forget you. I'll miss you more then you'll know."  She holds his hand to her chest and just sits there with him.  A nurse comes back down with Brice and Abby's driver Paul.  They can both tell at a glance Simon's already dead.

Brice - "Come on we need to take you upstairs to get checked out."

Abby - "I'm fine."

Paul - "Come on Abby. You need to come with us now.  Suzanna's been hit."  She gently lays Simon's head on the sidewalk and stands up.  She looks at the nurse who is covering him with a sheet.

Abby - "Don't leave him alone."

Nurse - "Of course not miss."  She gets taken back inside and up to the doctor's office.  Dr. Corday might be an OB/GYN but she has a fully stocked office.  She has Suzanna in one of the rooms and has sent almost everyone home.  When they get upstairs at first sight a nurse thinks that Abby was shot too.

Nurse - "you have to sit down while I check your wounds."  Abby looks at herself.

Abby - "It's not my blood.  Where is my sister?"

Nurse - "If you will please just sit while I..."

Abby - "Look lady I know you mean well but where is my fucking sister?!?"  Dr. Corday comes out of a room and motions for Abby.  She walks by the nurse.  The doctor stops her before going in.

Dr. - "I have to tell you a few things before you go in.  She has been shot three times.  Including once in the stomach.  We have to get the baby out.  I have called the hospital and they are sending a surgeon over to do the procedure here.  Its very possible that she is not going to make it.  Who should we call?"

Abby - "She's going to die?"

Dr. - "We are going to do everything we can to stop that from happening but I want to prepare you for the worse." 

Abby - "Okay."  She is speechless for a moment.  "Does she know?"

Dr. - "No I don't think its wise to upset her if there is nothing we can do."

Abby - "Alright."  She goes in and they have Suzanna hooked up to machines and she is in a lot of pain.  Abby takes the place of the nurse by her head.  Suzanna looks up at her.  She has almost no strength.  "Hey sis."

Suz - "they are going to delivery the baby.  Have you called Kevin?"

Abby - "yeah they are trying to reach him now?"

Suz - "Good."  She let her eyes close for a moment.  "I'm so tired."

Abby - "Well they have probably have more drugs in you then Tino ever tried."  She smiles weakly.

Suz - "I don't think I'm going to make it."

Abby - "Of course you are.  Stop talking crazy."  She looks into her sister's eyes giving her all the strength she can.

Suz - "you know something I don't.  Its okay.  I could tell by the way the doctor was acting."  Abby squeezes her hand tightly.  "I'm scared."  Her eyes start tearing up.  "Take care of my baby."

Abby - "Suzanna you are going to be here to take care of your own baby.  I'm not changing any shitty diapers."  Her eyes close again.  "Hey you've got to stay with me here."

Suz - "you have to promise me Abigail.  Take care of my boy.  Tell him about me.  Tell him Im sorry I had to leave him.  Make sure he knows how much I loved him and wanted to see him grow up."  As hard as Abby tried not to, she was crying.

Abby - "Okay.  But I won't have to cause you're not dying dammit."  Dr. Corday sticks her head in.

Dr. - "The surgeon is here.  We will only be a few more minutes Suzanna."

Suz - "Okay.  Don't let them make you leave stay in her with me."

Abby - "They'll have to drag me out."

Dr. Corday and the surgeon come in.  "Abigail you will need to step out now."

Abby - "She wants me to stay."

Dr. - "It would probably be better if you weren't in the room."

Suzanna's hand tightens around Abby's.  "She's staying."

Dr. - "Okay.  I'm going to need you to put on some scrubs."

Abby - "Okay.  Be right back."  She squeezes her hand and gets up.  

Dr. - "Okay Suzanna now breath deep."

Suz - "Dr. Corday?"

Dr. - "Yes?"

Suz - "If I don't get a chance.  Thank you.  You have been a wonderful doctor.  Save my baby."

Dr. - "Don't worry about anything it will be over before you know it."  Abby comes back in the room.  "Now this will just put you to sleep for awhile."

Suz - "No I don't want it.  Trust me I cant feel anything.  I want to be able to hear my baby's first cry."

Dr. - "Are you sure?  We have to do a Ceasearn and they are painful.  If you move you could hurt yourself and the baby."

Abby - "Anna it'll be okay I'm here."

Suz - "Okay."  The doctor places the mask over Suzanna's face and she starts to get groggy.  The surgeon starts the c-section.  He is very fast and has the baby out in ten minutes.  Suzanna kept slipping in and out of consciousness.  But as he lets out his first cry on the world she open her eyes.  She squeezes Abby's hand.

Abby - "Bring him around so she can see him."

The nurse holds the baby close to her face she smiles and then closes her eyes in sleep.  The doctors are working to close Suzanna up when she started hemorrhaging.

Surg - "Where is all this blood coming from?"

Dr. - "She was shot.  Wait look there a bullet."  The bullet that had hit her in the stomach was lodged in the spinal column.  "That would explain why she felt no pain."

Abby - "What's going on?"

Dr. - "Abby I really need you to go outside now."

Abby knows better then to argue so she steps outside and waits by the door.  As the nurse was cleaning off the baby she noticed a wound on his leg.

Nurse - "Dr. Corday!"  She comes over and looks at the wound.

Dr. - "It past through."  She starts examining the wound.  Suzanna flat lines, and they start trying to revive her.

Abby is still outside the door trying to figure out what is going on by the noises inside.  A nurse finally gets her to go sit in the waiting room.  A police officer approaches and introduces himself as Lt. Moore.

Moore - "Ms. Mazzagotti I have a few questions for you."

Abby - "Not now."

Moore - "It is important that we get the details while they are still fresh in your mind.  It will only take a moment.  Abby glares up at him.

Abby - "Not now."

Moore - "We really need to get to the bottom of this."

Abby - "get to the bottom of this.  Okay here's what happened.  Some guy shot at us as we were coming out of the building.  Brice got Suzanna back inside but not before they were both shot a couple of times.  My friend Simon got shot protecting me."

Moore - "Do you have any idea who was shooting at you?"  Briancomes in the door then

Moore - "Do you have any idea who was shooting at you?"  Brian comes in the door then.

Abby - "My friend is dead, my sister is in there having her baby, and is also very possibly going to die.  And you are asking me if I know who shot at us?  I might not know who shot at us but I do know who is about to get a fucking chair upside his head."  She picks up a chair and is ready to swing it at the officer.  Brian stops her by grabbing the chair.

Brian - "I think you can question her later."

Moore - "I think she needs to come downtown."

Brian - "Oh yeah thats a good idea.  Why don't you take her downtown while I call her brother and have him met you there with his lawyer.  Get lost."  Moore closes his little notepad and leaves. 

Abby is shaking.  Brian turns to her and pulls her in to his arms, completely unaware of the stares they are getting.  "Are you okay?"  She shakes her head.

Abby - "Suzanna is going to die."

Brian - "No she's not.  She's strong, she'll live."

Abby - "Did you get ahold of Kevin?"

Brian - "I haven't been able to reach him yet.  Howie's out looking for him."  He rubs her arms.  "You have goose bumps."

Abby - "That's all?  I'm surprised I'm still standing."

Brian - "Well, here sit."

Abby - "I can't.  I have to call JC and Tino."

Brian - "I already have they are on their way."  Then they hear a baby cry.  They both turn towards the door and go back the hall towards Suzanna's room.  They pass Brice who is finally letting some one clean his wounds.  A nurse comes running out and then back in.  

Abby - "What's going on?"

Brian - "I don't know."  Dr. Corday comes out and walks up to Abby and Brian.

Abby - "What happened?"

Dr. - "You sister coded but we where able to revive her.  She's stable for now, but she has lost a lot of blood.  We're going to be moving her to the hospital as soon as possible."

Brian - "Is that safe?"

Dr. - "Well she really shouldn't be moved but I don't have the faculties here that she needs."

Abby - "How's the baby?"

Dr. - "He had a bullet go through his right calf, now don't panic.  No perment damage has done.  They are preparing him to go to the hospital also.  I really need someone to get in touch with Suzanna's husband."

Brian runs a hand through his hair.  "I'll try again."

Dr. - "If you'll excuse me I'm going to see how they are doing?"

Abby was going to ask if she could go with but Tino and JC showed up just then.

JC - "Abby."  She collapsed in to her brothers' arms and just cried.  "Shh.  I'm here, you're going to be okay.  Can you tell me what happened?"

Abby tells him everything, well except what Simon told her.  She had a feeling that niether JC or Tino would be able to except it as fact.

JC - "okay.  Tino you stay here with Abigail while I check on Suzanna."  JC walks down the hall.

Abby - "Tino, did JC call papa?"

Tino - "Not yet, he wants to get as many facts as he can.  I see that atleast some one from the Bainchetti's decided to care about what is going on?"

Abby - "That's not fair Tino.  Kevin would have been her for her appointment but he had some meeting he couldn't miss or something like that."

Brian gets off his phone just then and joins the siblings.  "Howie finally got through, Kevin's on his way."
