Act Six: Consquences

Abby was upstairs writing in her diary about everything that happened last night when Suzanna came in.

Suz: "Abby papa wants everyone downstairs."

Abby: "Okay." She keeps writing.

Suz: "Now Abigail."

Abby: "Alright." She puts down her pen and follows her sister. "Sooo, what happened?"

Suz: "That is what papa wishes to see us about."

Abby: "Is it bad?"

Suz: "Yes and no."

They walk into the parlor. Giovanni is standing by the fireplace and Justino and JC are sitting in two chairs across from him. This is the first time Abby has ever been able to listen to family business. The girls sit on a little couch off to the one side.

Giovanni: "I will be brief. I have offered Suzanna's hand in marriage to Vito Jr. and he has accepted. I'm getting old and tired and I refuse to leave things as they are to my children."   Abby looks at Suzanna, her face shows no emotion. She thinks this is because she is trying to hold back tears.

JC: "I can handle the Bianchetti's papa."

Giovanni: "I do not wish them to be handled. I want peace. There was a time that Don Bianchetti and I were friends and I wish for that again before his death."

JC: "So you are going to put Suzanna on an auctioning block to ease your conscience."

Giovanni: "I assure you Jon Carlo, that if Suzanna had any strong objections to this I would not make her go through with the marriage."

JC: "But of course she would never tell you because we have been raised to obey your every word. What about the promise you made mama?"

Suz: "Jon Carlo that is enough."

JC: "No it's not. He is tying you to our enemy."

Suz: "Our only enemy is each other. You know that Corinthos has been sending down scouts. It's only a matter of time before he starts staking a claim in our city. If my marrying in to the Bianchetti family can stop that from happening then I will gladly do it. I want to protect my family."

Giovanni: "The decision has been made and that is the end of it. Ladies if you will excuse us I have other business to discuss with your brothers." They leave. As soon as the door closes Abby goes to talk and is hushed by her sister.

Suz: "Come to the garden with me." They walk outside and sit on a bench.

Abby: "Oh Suz I feel so bad for you."

Suz: "I'll be alright."

Abby: "But you are marrying some one that you not only don't love but barely know. How can papa do this to you?"

Suz: "He was thinking about what is best for all of us."

Abby" "but what about Mr. MGM." Abby has called him that since she figure out she was meeting someone there. "You can never see him again."

Suz: "I can make that sacrifice."

Abby: "this is so awful. I can't believe how much can change in a day. Last night I felt like everything was perfect and now it's all shitty."

Suz: "Abby, don't let papa hear that language."

Abby: "Well it is. What about school? You were so close to being done."

Suz: "Kevin wants me to finish school and then we'll get married in August."

Abby: "I can't believe you're marrying him."

Suz: "Well I am and I was wondering if you would be my maid of honor?"

Abby: "Of course I will! I'll be the only bright spot in your dark day. Is it really to late to tell papa you changed you mind?"

Suz: "Yes."

Abby: "how are you going to tell MGM?"

Suz: "Idon't think I have to. He'll find out on his own."

Abby: "What you're just going to stand him up?"

Suz: "No, not exactly."

Abby: "I feel so bad for you and your Mr. MGM."

Suz: "Stop calling him that."

Abby: "Oh okay it only hurts I'll change the subject. At least Kevin doesn't seem all that bad. I met him last night. He's got really nice eyes. Maybe it won't be so bad after all."

Suz: "No it's not going to be so bad." A couple tears roll down her face. But it is because she is so happy that her wish is coming true. Abby of course think it is because she doesn't want to do this.

Abby: "Don't cry Suzanna. I'm sure it won't be so bad."

Suz: "I'm not crying because I'm upset." She wipes her face. "I'm going to tell you something but you have to promise that you will not tell a soul. No one, especially Joey."

Abby: "My lips are sealed."

Suz: "the person that I've been having an affair with is Vito Jr." Abby's eyes get big and she starts laughing.

Abby: "No, now come on really who is he?" She nods her head. "No! You are serious. How could you do such a thing if anyone had found out"

Suz: "Well they didn't and now we're going to get married some thing that we thought was never going to happened and I'm so happy."   She breaks down and cries some more.

Abby: "If you are so happy then why are you crying?"

Suz: "Because I don't know what else to do. When papa said that Kevin and I were to be married I wanted to jump in his arms and kiss him but we have to keep up this show that there was never anything between us. I don't even know when I'll see him again."

Abby: "I'll get you to see him."

Suz: "How?"

Abby: "Trust me I'll figure it out."

Suz: "Did anyone ever tell you how sneaky you are?"

Abby: "I know it's not exactly a good thing but it does come in handy at times. Like now, I'm going to tell Joey that I want to take you and Kevin out to dinner and after we eat Joey and I will leave and let you and Kevin have some time together."

Suz: "But how are you going to get Joey to leave with you." Abby raises an eyebrow. "You had better be careful, papa might know about it but that doesn't mean he likes it. If you get all crazy he will put a stop to it."

Abby: "I know but he's not going to put a stop to it tonight. And if I can help you and my future brother in law then I will. Now dry your eyes. That's better, I'll go talk to Joey."

Suz: "Okay. Wait a minute, Abby is everything okay between you and Joey?"

Abby: "Yeah every thing's fine." Abby puts her head down and lets her hair fall in her face. Suzanna reaches out and brushes the hair behind her ear.

Suz: "What are you not telling me?"

Abby: "Nothing. Look I knew things were going to change once Joey and I took that next step and they did. It's just not like I thought it was going to be." She sees Suz has that worried mother expression on her face. "But I have no regrets. Things are going to be fine. Now I'm going to go find him and make plans for tonight okay."

Suz: "Okay."

Abby found Joey where she always does. He was in the kitchen eating a sandwich.

Abby: "I'm glad you hung around that way I didn't have to call you."

Joey "How's Suzanna?"

Abby: "She's okay. A little upset because she has spoken to her fiancé in years but okay."

Joey "And how are you?'

Abby: "Good." She leans across the table and gives him a quick kiss.

Joey: "Are you crazy anyone could walk in."

Abby: "I know it's kinda exciting."

Joey "Not for me."

Abby: "I can't help it. I've been replaying last night and this morning in my head all day."

Joey "So have I."

Abby: "Want to refresh your memory?"

Joey "What now?"

Abby: "No I have a plan."

Joey "Don't you always."

Abby: "We are going to take Suzanna and her fiancé out to dinner and then sneak away."

Joey: "I really don't want to be around that guy."

Abby: "Neither do I but I can suffer for an hour or so if it means I can be with you. Besides it'll look good to papa." That's his weakness, he is always trying to impress her dad.

Joey: "Won't they notice us leaving."

Abby:   "I'll just say I have a headache."

Joey "And leave Suzanna with Vito Jr."

Abby: "Yeah, they are going to be married they should be able to sit through dessert together."

Joey: "okay, but you better go clear it with Don Mazzagotti."

Abby: "No problem." She goes and talks to him and he says okay. JC gives Abby a half-nasty look for accepting the marriage but she just skips out to call Kevin. A maid answers the phone and gets him.

Kevin: "Hello."

Abby: "Hi, Kevin this is Abigail Mazzagotti. How are you doing today?"

Kevin: "Fine, how may I help you?"

Abby:   "Well papa has told us all about the marriage and I wanted to take you and Suzanna out to dinner so we can all get better acquainted. Now if you'll meet us at Tony Roma's around eight that would be good. It's only going to be Suzanna, you, my escort and me. Sound good."

Kevin: "thank you for the invitation but tonight is not a good night."

Abby: "No it has to be. What ever it is can wait, trust me you have to come. I would consider it a favor."

Kevin: "Well when you put it that way how can I refuse."

Abby: "Good see you at eight." She hangs up very pleased with herself.

Kevin was waiting for them at Tony Roma's when they arrived. He stood as they approached the table and pulled out a chair for Suzanna. Once she was seated, he pushed it back in. Joey on the other hand let Abby fend for herself. The waitress comes to the table and takes drink orders. Everyone is extremely nervous, Suzanna's hands are shaking so much, she places them on her lap to keep them out of sight. She relaxes a bit, when she feels Kevin's hand touch hers and give it a re-assuring squeeze. No one is saying anything, it is more than a little obvious that Joey wishes he didn't have to be here. Abby is sitting there trying really hard to picture Kevin and Suzanna together. She can't help but to see him as her mortal enemy. Their drinks arrive and they all linger over the menus. After some deliberation they make their choices. Interestingly enough, Kevin and Suzanna order the exact same thing. The salads arrive, as do the second round of drinks, for some of them. Despite Abby's less than the minimum age, she is consuming vast quantities of wine. Half-way thru the salad Suzanna makes a failed attempt to initiate a conversation, but figure it a lost cause with Abby's increasing intoxication and Joey's contemptuous looks. Their entrees arrive and she barely picks at hers. One of the employees must have mistaken that for her displeasure because the nervous owner comes out to inquire to her satisfaction. Suzanna looks up and smiles.

Suz:"The food is quite delicious, I assure you. I just find myself not particularly hungry."

He smiles, nods and departs. Everyone finishes their meals and the waitress comes with the dessert cart. Suzanna catches Kevin's eye, he nods.

Suz: "Abby, thank you so much for inviting me out, Joseph thank you for your company. I am feeling slightly ill. I think I will have the car service take me home."

Kevin: "Nonsense, I am going that way, I will see you home. Thank you Abigail it was a pleasure. Mr. Fatone." He nods. "Please feel free to stay as long as you like, dinner is on me."

Kevin stands and pulls her chair out and helps Suzanna out of the restaurant before Abby can bat an eye.

On the way out, Kevin stops at the matre D's stand and requests the dinner be put on his tab. They get their coats and leave. Followed by Sphinx and his man Carlo Ricci.

Joey is starring after them, "Fuck, I let her leave with him."

Abby smiles, "she has Sphinx, besides he won't hurt her."

Joey looks at her. Abby goes to take another drink and he grabs it out of her hand. She looks at him shocked. "Don't make a spectacle of yourself"

Abby: "Fine can we just go please"

He shrugs and the two of them leave, followed by no one. Who in their right mind would mess with Abby in Joey's presence? But then again, no one is there to save her from him, either. The two of them get in the car and she tells the driver the address to her house.

Joey: "No, I think we have plans at the Palace."

She looks at him. "I have a headache."

Joey: "Maybe you shouldn't drink so much. Take us to Caesar's" The driver pulls away. Abby sits back and starts to pout. Joey leans over to look in her eyes. "You owe me for sitting down at the same table with that asshole. You owe me and I intend to cash in."

He bends down and kisses her neck, making a trail of kisses into the cleavage revealed, with the help of a semi-low cut shirt and a push up bra. She tries to push him away but he grabs hold of her wrists and holds her in place with no effort. Abby bits her lip to ward off the tears brimming in her eyes and her mind tries to picture how Kevin is like with Suzanna. Even with her underlying contempt for his family, she could never see him being the least bit hurtful towards her.

The car stop and Joey lets go of her and she fixes her shirt. The driver opens the door and assists Abby out of the car. Joey gets out of the car and the two enter the building.

Someone yells:"FATONE!!'

Joey looks around and sees Chris and some red-headed bimbo he is with. Abby rolls her eyes as she follows Joey over to were they are.

Chris: "Whatcha doin', Paisan"

Joey: "Hey, where's your manners, say hello to Abigail, huh?"

Chris finally sees her standing there. "Sorry, how ya doin' darling'?" She smiles and accepts his hug. He is utterly high and just as drunk. "Yo, Joey, man there is some high roller havin' one hell of a bash, you in man."

Joey: "Yeah"

Abby: "Joey!"

Joey: "Look, why don't you go ahead, man. I'll catch up with ya later."

Chris nods and he and the red head follow the stream of people entering the elevators. Joey takes Abby's hand and leads her to the private elevator. Once inside the elevator he is very apologetic. She of course forgives him and the two of them barely make it to their floor still clothed. Once the elevator door opens, Joey scoops her up. She giggles and he runs down the hall.   She swipes her pass card and the door unlocks. Joey kicks it open and then closed behind him. He practically tears off any remaining clothing and throws her down on the bed. The sex is hard, and not the least bit passionate. It feels so good, Abby doesn't realize it hurts. It feels so good, she screams for him to give it to her harder. She scratches his back, he bites her shoulder, she screams his name, he pulls her hair. She cries out, he goes deeper, harder; Abby bites the inside of her mouth until she tastes blood.   His pace quickens, he moans, she prays for it to be over. He withdraws from her and then he disappears into the bathroom. Abby curls up in a little ball on the bed. He emerges re-dressed.

Joey: "I think we're even" He walks out of the room. Abby lays there, as tears stream down her face. Her mind won't let her see him for who he is, so she tricks herself into thinking it's her fault. She thinks about Kevin and Suzanna. She curses out loud in Italian and tries to figure out what kind of fucked up love they think they have. Love isn't gentle, love isn't kind, love is supposed to hurt.

Rewind:

Kevin and Suzanna exit the restaurant and his car pulls up like clock work... The driver opens the door and Kevin
assists her inside and then he climbs in. Sphinx and Carlo get in the car behind them. The phone inside rings and Kevin answers it he says something in Hungarian on that Suzanna is a little rusty. He hangs up and looks at her. Then reaches over and brushes a strand of hair off her cheek. She turns her head slightly and kisses the palm of his hand. He pulls her onto his lap. She looks into his eyes and then quickly looks away. He gently tips her chin so that she is forced to look at him. A smile forms on her lips.

Kevin: "How are you feeling?"

Suz: "Miraculously better. Now, where are you taking me?"

Kevin: "It's a surprise." Suz goes to ask another question. "Shh." She smiles and he kisses her, first on the lips, then her cheek, to her ear, then her neck, to her shoulder. He kisses cause her to shiver. "Are you cold?" She shakes her head no and snuggles deeper into his embrace   closing her eyes she is so enjoying the attention he is lavishing on her that she didn't even realize the car ad stopped.

Kevin whispers,"We're here."

Suz: "Okay." She gives him a quick kiss and then slide off his lap, onto the seat next to him.

Kevin: "Anna, do you trust me"

Suz: "of course, why?" He pulls out a scarf to blind fold her. "What is with all the mystery?"

Kevin: "you'll see." He wraps the silk material around her face. She can only smile as he helps her out of the car. The excitement and anticipation of where he might be taking her is very arousing. She lets out a small cry of surprise when his hand goes around her waist to steady her on the loose gravel. She feels the small stones getting in her sandals and mentally congratulates herself on wearing sandals instead of heels. It feels like they were walking forever.

Suz: "Vito, where are we?"

Kevin: "Shh, we're almost there." She starts to smell something sweet and earthy. "Ok, stand still. I'll take off the blind fold."

He does and when Suzanna opened her eyes, she discovered he had lead her to some huge botanical garden, where they were all alone. There is a little table with wine and cheeses and crackers and all the trees have little white lights, it is breath taking.

Suz: "How did you arrange this?"

Kev: "Made a couple of phone calls. This is an old family place of my mothers."

Suz: "It's beautiful." She walks over to smell a large iris.

Kev: "You're beautiful." She turns back and walks to him slowly. Sudden music starts playing. He holds his hand out for her. She places her hand in his and he pulls her close. They start to dance. Suzanna giggles every time he spins her away and then pulls her back. She suddenly looks up at him and the expression in his eyes showed her so much love that she had to look away or she would start to cry. He doesn't let her shy away; he takes her chin and turns her face back up towards his.

Kev: "You are happy, no?"

Suz: "Very happy"

Kevin: "Good." He kisses her lightly. They dance until the song stops then he takes her hand and leads her to the table. Kevin sits down and pulls her onto his lap. He hands her a glass of wine and then picks up his own. "To happily ever after."

Suz: "Here, here."

They clink the glasses and drink. While taking a sip and Suzanna sees something shiny in the bottom of the glass as it catches the light. She holds the glass up and looks, it's a diamond ring.

Suz: "Vito, you big goof. What if I would have drank really fast and swallowed the ring."

Kevin: "But you always sip your wine, Suzanna."

She thinks a minute, "I do, don't I." She sips her wine down to the ring and then he pours the ring out into his palm. Then he looks up at her.

Kevin: "Marry me, Suzanna Mazzagotti and I promise you, I will spend the rest of my life making you happy."

Suz: "With a proposal like that how can I say no." He slips the ring on her finger. It is a beautiful cut and color. "I love you Vito."

Kevin kisses her and pours some more wine. They drink and dance sharing small talk that means nothing really. Both just enjoying the fact that they no longer have to hide their love.

Kevin: "August 19th"

Suz: "What about it?"

Kevin: "August 19th, is the day you become mine"

She smiles, "I am already yours, my love."

Kevin: "Come with me." He leads her down a path and suddenly the most beautiful house comes in view. Suzanna's eyes widen at the sight of it.

Kevin: "Do you like it?"

Suz: "it's beautiful"

Kevin: "I used to come here when I was little, my grandparents lived here. I always wanted to live here, but my father was more in love with modern amenities."

Suz: "The strangest thing, I think I remember playing here but there were not all these flowers."

Kevin: "No, the garden is somewhat new. My mother needed something to take her mind off my father's
illness. So she threw herself headlong into gardening."

Suz: "Vito, can we live here" She startled Kevin out of whatever nostalgic moment he was having.

Kevin:   "What?"

Suz: "Can we live here? I love it. You are happy here, there is plenty of room for our children."

Kevin: "It needs some work, Anna."

Suz: "Please."

Kevin: "I can't say yes, right away. I need to be at the house for my father. This place would not due for the attention he needs but I will promise that someday you can call this home."

She smiles, "thank you." She wraps her arms around his waist. "Come on show me some more."

He shows her around some more of the grounds and then they venture inside the house. It has been well up-kept and is full of antiques.

Suz: "I definitely remember coming here. You were so mean to me. You pulled my hair and threw dirt on my dress. You used to call me yellow hair."

Kevin laughs, "What a stupid kid I was."

Suz: "You chased me up these very stairs." She winks at him and dashes up the stairs, Kevin close behind. She runs to the end of the hallway upstairs.

Kevin: "What else do you remember?"

Suz: "You and Jon Carlo locked me in, um this one, no this room." She opens the door and walks backwards inside. Kevin follows and closes the door behind him.

Kevin: "What else do you remember?"

Suz: "Being scared and all alone"

Kevin walks over and wraps his arms around her. "Don't ever be scared of me, Suzanna." He kisses her and she shivers. She wraps her arms around his neck and kisses him back. He picks her up and walks over and lays her on the bed. Reaching up he slides the strap of her dress off her shoulder and kisses the skin that is revealed. She reaches out unties his tie, then untucks his shirt and fumbles with the buttons as he is slowly unclothing her. Finally she gets his shirt unbuttoned and then he stands up and undoes his cufflinks and the buttons and removes his shirt. Kevin removes his pants while he is standing then he finishes undressing Suzanna.

He slowly kisses every inch of her body knowing all the right places to give extra attention. She runs her hands over his back muscles and moans faintly. "Vito please love me."

He reaches down and guides himself into her as she moves her hips to accommodate the size of him. His lips caress her breasts, running his tongue over her nipples. "Yes, baby... oh ... ummm, baby harder." He quickens his pace, until she is moaning louder.

"My sweet Anna." He closes his eyes losing himself in the feeling of being with her. "Oh God how I love you." He looks down at her face. Her eyes are closed, she is biting her lip. "Don't hold back my love no one can hear you." He kisses her lips softly as he withdrawals himself.

"What are you doing?"

"Roll over." She does as he asks and he stands at the edge of the bed. She positions herself in front of him and he starts to rub her back, running his fingers up into her hair. She loves the way his hands feel on her skin. He once again enters her but this time from behind. She gasps as the first wave of sensations hits her. He starts a slow pace guiding her onto him by holding her hips. Gradually she takes over the pace speeding up. He bends over on to her back and fondles her breasts. "Let me hear you Anna. "Oh god Vito, I love you. I love you so much." She just keeps repeating that without realizing it. Soon she is close to her finish. "Oh God Vito don't stop." Kevin: "Soon we can. I promise." He hands her her slip. "But for now I must get you back to your father's"

Suz: "I know." She sighs as she gets dressed. "I leave for school in the morning. So I won't see you again until I get back."

Kevin: "I know. How are your studies going?"

Suz: "Good the last paper I turned into Professor Marakoff he actually given me A on."

Kevin: "That's great." He has just finished buttoning his shirt as he looks at her.

Suz: "Yeah he suddenly has like this new outlook on life or something. It kinda weird, he's always asking me if I need any help with any of my classes. If I didn't know better I would think he was trying to pick me up." She crosses her arms and looks at him. "I wonder what got in to him."

Kevin smiles at her, "he must have just had a change of heart."

Suz: "Yeah right."

Kevin: "Come on it's late I have to get you home."
