Chapter Eighteen

Actually Nick and AJ both took Jess to the hospital. Nick didn't drive and no one was letting him take his or her car. Nick made Jess crazy the whole way there. She sat in the back seat so she could keep her leg up. Of course when they got there since Jess didn't have an arm falling off they were forced to sit and wait. Finally after a half an hour they called her back. She tried to tell them to wait out in the lobby but they weren't having it.

Jess got in one of those little curtain areas. Nick immediently started playing with stuff.

Nick - "What's this?"

Jess - "Put it down."

Nick - "No what are they?"

Jess - "They're used to give women internal exams."

Nick - "Internal exams?" She gives him a look and then look down. "Ugh!!!" He drops them.

Jess - "I'm sure they were clean." AJ's just laughing his ass off.

AJ - "Hey look one of those shocker things." He goes over and starts pushing buttons.

Nick - "Cool. Hey give me the things. Okay clear." He acts like he was shocked.

Jess - "Come on guys cut it out we're going to get in trouble." The doctor approaches from outside and all she sees under the curtain is two sneaker feet shuffle around. When she opens the curtain they both have on doctor masks and scrubs. Jess is just sitting there holding her head. They quickly take it off.

Dr. - "Ms. Connery. I'm Dr. Polvo. Let's take a look at that leg shall we."

Jess - "Doctor I'm so sorry I try to make them stop but you see they don't get out of the mental ward that much. Ouch!" She touches Jess's leg and she almost jump off the table.

Dr. - "Why don't you just tell me how this happened."

Jess - "Well we were just playing basketball and I trip. Is it broken?"

Dr. - "Looks like it, let's get some x-rays to make sure. This might take awhile you gentleman are welcome to wait in the cafeteria."

AJ - "We'll just wait with her if that's alright."

Dr. - "Alright just don't get in to any mischief." She gives them a stern look and leaves.

Jess - "you know what guys she's right this is going to take awhile why don't you go back to the cookout and I'll call a cab to get back to the hotel."

Nick - "Nope I did this to you I'm staying."

Jess - "Nick look it was an accident. It's not like you came up and just grab my ankle and broke it. Please guys just go. It's not actually safe for you guys to be here you might get recognized."

AJ - "Save it we're not leaving. I'm going to see if I can speed things up a little." He goes and finds some one in charge. He came back, then him and Nick leave. They are not gone even a minute when they come and take Jess for a x-ray. As soon as she gets back to the ER the stuff for her cast is laid out and they are looking at the x-rays. A half an hour later as her cast is drying they come back.

Jess - "Alright who did you bribe to get this done so quick?"

AJ - "No one. We just volunteer to go up to the children's ward and hoped that you would be ready when we got back."

Jess - "Slick. I'm just waiting for this to dry then I guess we are out of here."

Dr. - "Mr. McLean I take it the children were happy to see you"

AJ - "Yeah it was a nice visit. I even got my fingernails painted." He holds up his hands they are done in a very bright purple. "What do you think is it my color?"

Jess - "Very nice. So when am I getting out of here?"

Dr. - "Well it is drying very nicely I'll be back in about ten minutes then you should be able to go."

Jess - "Thanks doc." She walks away. "So I'm not going to be good for much the rest of this trip. Oh shit."

Nick - "What?"

Jess - "I've got Stephen's premier Friday. How am I going to go like this?"

AJ - "Well it is a walking cast."

Jess - "Very funny. It's going to be like and there's Stephen's cripple sister. Oh she's a gimp that's why she's her by herself."

Nick - "You're brother's movie is premier next week."

Jess - "Yeah I promised him I come. Now what am I going to do?"

AJ - "don't worry Jess we'll figure something out." Jess sits there and contemplates her miserable situation.

Two hours later she's sitting on the couch in the living room. A sudden shower had moved the party inside. They absolutely would not let Jess go back to her hotel. With all the pain killers she's on she could really care less where she is.

Kevin - "Okay is everyone ready."

Jess - "Ready for what?"

Kevin - "I've got a copy of the video we're putting out in two weeks."

Nick - "How did you get that?"

Kevin - "Donna she gave it to me yesterday, I thought we could all watch it together."

Brian - "Cool put it in man let's see it."

So he started watching the "All Access" video. Being involved in production like Jess is, the beginning was kind of boring. Now even though she worked at MTV she had only seen a couple of their videos, 'As long as you love me' and 'Backstreet's back.' When they get to the video for 'Quit playing games with my heart.' At the first slow mo she start giggling, by the time it gets to the rain she's cackling. Her giggle has become infectious and soon everyone is laughing. Well except Christine, she's just kind of laughing to go along with it.

Jess - "Who ever told you that that was a good idea." She finally got herself under control.

Howie - "At the moment it seem like it was going to be real classy, you know the black and white and everything."

Jess - "But Howie you guys where like, oh look at my body," She starts rubbing her hands over herself, "Don't I look sexy with water pouring over me. Oh I'm so hot." She starts laughing again. "Wow these are some good pain killers. I think I need to stop now."

They watch the rest of the video but Jess kept seeing the other one so every now and then she would start giggling to herself. After that she asked for some one to take her back to the hotel cause she need to rest. Brian has the biggest vehicle, an explorer, so he volunteers. They get in to the car and start up the road.

Brian - "Does it hurt?"

Jess - "It kinda aches but the drugs work nicely."

Brian - "Are you stoned?"

Jess - "I don't know. I'm kinda dizzy can you pull over for a minute." He pulls over, then rushes around to open her door.

Brian - "Here come out and get some fresh air." He helps her out and she sits on the ground then lays back.

Jess - "Brian can you look at that bottle and see what it says." He takes out her med.

Brian - "Um, take one every four to six hours or as need for pain."

Jess - "Shit, she told me two, and I didn't think to read the bottle."

Brian - "Are you going to be okay? Should I take you to the hospital?"

Jess - "No I'm just a little high. I need to lay down."

Brian - "You are laying down." She looks around.

Jess - "Oh yeah. Have a seat." He lies next to her and they look at the stars. The house is a little off the beaten path so it's dark enough to see them, also there is like no traffic. "Look a shooting star! Quick make a wish." Jess is high so, "I wish for Brian to kiss me."

Brian - "What did you say?"

Jess - "I said make a wish." She has no idea she said that out loud. He smiles and decides to let it slide.

Brian - "So what do you think of Christine?"

Jess - "I don't think she likes me."

Brian - "She's just a little stand offish at first. She's really great, you guys will get along well."

Jess - "If you say so." He rolls on his stomach and looks at her.

Brian - "I would really like you two to be friends. You both are important to me." Jess looks up in his eyes in the darkness they are a deep blue. She lost her train of thought. "Could you try for me?"

Jess - "Yeah. She can't be that bad if you like her."

Brian - "Thanks." He kisses her cheek. Not exactly what she was looking for wish wise but it works.

Jess - "I think we can get going now."

Brian - "Okay." He helps her up. Nothing happens on the way to the hotel. They just chitchat about nonsense stuff. He then makes sure she got to her room. "Are you going to be okay?"

Jess - "Oh yeah I'll just sleep it off."

Brian - "Okay do you need any help getting ready for bed." she gives him one of her patented looks.

Jess - "Brian, I would sleep in a snow suit in the middle of the Sahara before I let you help undress me."

Brian - "Yeah well that could change at any time." He kisses her cheek again. "See ya tomorrow."

She falls on the bed, scream into the pillow at how frustrating he is and then call Loren to recount the events of the day.

She had just got home from working at the club.

Loren - "Hey how are you doing klutzy."

Jess - "I take it you talked to Kevin already."

Loren - "Yeap, real slick."

Jess - "I didn't do it to myself Nick tripped me with his big feet."

Loren - "It was only a matter of time before you broke something. You know you have absolutely no athletic ability."

Jess - "Thanks, I'm so glad I called you, you always cheer me up."

Loren - "Why what's wrong?"

Jess - "What's always wrong."

Loren - "Brian."

Jess - "Yeah. He took my advice, Christine's here."

Loren - "I know is she as unbearable as everyone says she is?"

Jess - "It's not so much she's unbearable but I don't know. She doesn't like me that's for sure. She was definitely not happy that Brian brought me back to the hotel."

Loren - "Oh, just you and Brian."

Jess - "Yeah. Loren stop it okay he is my friend nothing more."

Loren - "Only cause you insist on being hard headed."

Jess - "I'm happy being by myself. This is the first time I've really felt independent and I like it."

Loren - "I'm not saying that I want you to be married and have ten kids but wouldn't it be nice to have some one you could turn to when things go wrong or you just have a bad day and need some one to cuddle with."

Jess - "I have my family and they will be there for me, so no I don't need or want a boyfriend right now. Okay can we drop it."

Loren - "Alright you win this time."

Jess - "Thank you. How's Tristen dealing with pre-school?"

Loren - "I've some how raised a genius. They are giving him some kind of test tomorrow to see if the school is up to teaching him at the level he needs to learn at."

Jess - "Are you serious?"

Loren - "Yeah. I'm more nervous about it then he is."

Jess - "Well it has to be exciting."

Loren - "I'm more scared then excited. The last thing I need is a smart kid telling me how stupid I am."

Jess - "Loren you are in no way stupid. You graduated in the top five percent of your class!"

Loren - "I know but why does he have to grow up."

Jess - "He's a kid they do that. Besides it's not like he's asking to borrow the car yet you have a lot of years of him being little."

Loren - "I just hope he doesn't get overwhelmed by all of this and loses himself."

Jess - "You worry too much I'm sure it'll be fine." She yawns. "Well I think I'm going to go to bed now."

Loren - "Alright I guess I'll see you when you get back."

Jess - "I'll probably call you before then."

Loren - "I know. Sleep well."

Jess - "I plan on it."
