Chapter Thirty-Nine

May 5, 1999

The guys were coming to TRL to premier their new video off their new album. It's going to be the first time Jess has seen all them since New Year's. She's talked to Nick a lot and stuff but she was too busy to schedule a visit. She missed them all so much that she was actually waiting down in the garage for them. Finally the girls that had been chanting Backstreet Boys for the past half an hour started screaming.

Their limo pulled slowly into the garage. Jess step off the curb to meet them. Nick jumped out of the car first. At least she thinks it was Nick it seemed like he grew six inches since the last time she saw him. He comes over and hugs her.

Nick - "I missed you so much."

Jess - "I just talked to you two days ago." He finally lets go.

Nick - "Yeah but it's not the same."

Howie - "Are you going to be hanging on to her all day or can we say hello?" Jess steps around Nick.

Jess - "Hi Howie."

Howie - "You look great I can't believe you cut your hair." He touches her hair.

Jess - "Does it look that bad?"

Howie - "No it looks great." He hugs her. She says hello and hugs everyone else even Brian. It's just not with the same enthusasium as the rest.

Jess - "Well I better get you upstairs before Carson kills me." They head up and Jess puts them in the waiting room. And signals to Carson that they are here. He nods and throws to the number four video.

Carson - "Come here."

Jess - "What?"

Carson - "Where's your gear they've been trying to reach you?"

Jess - "Why what's up?"

Carson - "Some problem with the video in the control room. Go they need your help."

Jess - "okay." She heads to the control room.

When she walked in everyone is just staring at her. She looks down at her clothes. "What do I have something on me?" She turns around and sees Lance behind the door.

Lance - "Surprise." She hugs him.

Jess - "What are you doing here?"

Lance - "I wanted to surprise you."

Jess - "You know how much I like surprises."

Lance - "Yeah. I know." They're still standing there with their arms around each other. Brad comes up.

Brad - "Oh will you two get a room already."

Jess - "Brad can you keep an eye on things while I take Lance to my office."

Brad - "He knows where your office is."

Jess - "Brad, please."

Brad - "Alright go." They walk down the hall past the waiting room. AJ sees them go by.

AJ - "I must be seeing things."

Brian - "what?"

AJ - "I think Jessica just walked by with Lance Bass."

Nick - "No she didn't. She told me she had started dating someone that must have been him. He probably just looked like him at quick glance."

AJ - "Well he looks an awful lot like him."

Brad - "Come on guys it's time."

AJ - "Hey who was that guy that Jess just went by here with."

Brad - "who Lance?"

AJ - "See I told you it was Lance."

Nick - "I wonder why she didn't say anything."

Brian - "look we don't have time to go into this now." They look at him. "Come on let's go."

Once Jess gets Lance to her office she greets him in a more proper way. She pushs him into her chair and sit on his lap. "I missed you."

Lance - "I missed you too. Sorry I was gone so long."

Jess - "Well you can make it up to me." She kisses him lightly.

Lance - "And how can I do that?"

Jess - "Let me cook you dinner tonight."

Lance - "I thought you said you didn't cook."

Jess - "well I've been practicing on myself and since I haven't killed me I thought I'd try it on you."

Lance - "You thought you'd try to kill me." She playfully punches him in the chest.

Jess - "No. So will you come over?"

Lance - "Yeah I'd love to."

Jess - "Good." She kisses him again and then snuggles into his chest. He looks over her head at the TV.

Lance - "Hey I didn't know that they where here today?" He had seen Jess talking to Kevin when she went with him to the AMA's last month. Jess then told him about them all being friends.

Jess - "I must have told you at least ten times."

Lance - "I forgot."

Jess - "Big surprise."

Lance - "I'm sorry you can spend time with them if you want. I can come over another night."

Jess - "Don't be silly. You made a special trip to see me. I can catch up with them later."

Lance - "You sure."

Jess - "Yeah. But I should get back to work. Why don't you go wait at my place and I'll be there as soon as I get off work. 'Kay baby."

Lance - "Okay. Kiss." She kisses his lips and he pulls her closer. "Don't be late."

Jess - "I won't." She goes back to the set and he pulls his hood up over his face and leaves.
