There's something about those boybands.

Chapter Ninety

Later that afternoon I wake up in a sunny room.  I have no idea what time it is, Brian is standing by the window looking out.  My throat is too dry to talk so I cough slightly.

Brian - “hey nice to see you awake.”

Me - “Can I have some water?”

Brian - “Sure.”  He pours a glass and raises the back of the bed up.

I slowly drink, “how long have I been asleep?”

Brian - “About 6 hours. They gave you something after the surgery to help you rest.”

I see some flowers.  “Who are the flowers from?”

Brian – “Summer, she was by while you were out.

Me - “Oh. I’m glad you’re still here.”

Brian - “I would have been here all along if I would have known.”

Me - “ I know.”

Brian - “How could you not tell me?”

Me - “I had my reasons.”

Brian - “And they were?” He is starting to loose control of his anger.

Me - “Things I don’t wish to tell you.”

Brian - “I thought I knew you. But I would have never guessed you could be so selfish.”

Me - “Selfish! I’m selfish. You were engaged to Christine the whole time we were together and never bother to tell me. You were too busy trying to keep her from finding out. You have no right to call me selfish.”

Brian - “So what this is your revenge! Have my kids and not tell me?”

Me - “They are my kids not yours.”

Brian - “I beg to differ.”

Me - “Just because you fathered them doesn’t mean you have any right to them.”

Brian - “Just try to keep me away.”  Loren and Vivian were coming down the hall and heard him yelling from there.

Loren - “That’s enough. What do you think you’re doing she just had babies and you are in here yelling at her. You have some nerve.”

Brian - “You are the last person I want to see right now.”

Loren - “well deal with it because I’m not going to let you stand here and yell at her.”

Brian - “This is none of your business.”

Loren - “She my family of course it’s my business.”

Brian - “You know what you’re right this became your business when you decided not to tell anyone. Now she was pregnant so she can use that as an excuse for her insanity. But why did you lie to everyone, including Kevin.”

Loren - “I don’t have to explain myself to you.”

Brian - “no you have to explain yourself to Kevin. You better come up with something good.”

Loren - “Get out before I call security.”

Brian - “fine.” He looks down at me. “I’ll be back so we can discuss this more calmly. Get some rest.”  I’m crying again, cause well after you have babies you cry a lot.

Viv – “Are you okay?”  She hands me some tissues

Me – “Yeah I’m fine.  He has every right to be upset you know.”

Loren – “Maybe but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let him yell at you.”

Me – “Trust me that wasn’t yelling for Brian.  That was kind of calm.”

Viv – “Anyway I can’t believe you have two babies!  What are you going to name the other boy?”

Me – “I don’t know I had such a hard time picking out one.  Maybe I’ll let Brian pick it out.”

Brian stops by the nursery on his way out. Both of my parents there looking at the kids. The babies are in the NICU so no one except the parents can go in. He goes and picks up Connery boy 1 and walks to the window. The baby is so tiny he could hold it in one hand. Kurt smiles as he looks at the tiny infant.  Goldie is on her second box of tissues in 24 hours. Brian motions for her to come around to the door. He puts down the baby and comes out.

Brian - “I talked to the nurse and you can come in with me if you want.”

Goldie - “Yes please.” She picks up one of the boys. “Hey there little man.”

Brian - “I feel silly asking you but did she pick names out.”

Goldie - “yeah. Which one was first?”

Brian - “This guy right here.” He picks him up and hands him to her.

Goldie - “Then this must be Thomas Elliott.” He smiles.

Brian - “She gave him my middle name.”

Goldie - “I think maybe you should give that little guy one.”

Brian - “Think she would mind?”

Goldie - “Honey I love my daughter. I know she had her reasons but after what she did to you I think you have the right to name your son.”

Brian - “Well.” He picks him up. “I have always liked the story of Noah from the bible. And in that story there is two of everything so since he is a twin I think Noah would be a good name. I’ll think of a middle one later”

Goldie - “Noah is a great name.” He spends some more time with the babies and when he leaves he gives Kurt his bracelet so he can go in.  Kurt doesn’t say a word to him. He still sees him as the guy who got his little girl knocked up.

Brian goes back to the same hotel that everyone was staying at for his wedding.  He already told his parents over the phone about the Jessica and the babies.  They were due in the next morning and he was going to be meeting them at the airport to take them to the hospital.

Everything was just so crazy he had to get to a quiet place to think.  Brian knew he had to clear his head and figure out why deep down inside he was glad that it was Jessica who had his children and that his wedding to Christine was postponed.  He needed to talk it all out and he always turned to the guys as a sounding board when things got tough.

The next morning, Loren went to the one place she knew Kevin would be.  They had been staying at her parents’ LA house while on town, but Kevin hadn’t been home since everything happened at the hospital.  She couldn’t take it anymore and decided to go and try to fix things with him.  After all they where supposed to be getting married in under 2 months.

After talking the desk clerk into giving her Nick’s room number she went up and knocked on the door.  Loren was totally unprepared for Brian to answer.

Brian – “What the hell do you want?”

Loren – “I was looking for Kevin.”

Brian – “Out to ruin his life too.”

Loren – “Brian she is my family.  I had to support her decision not to tell you.”

Brian – “Family.  Well guess what I’m your family too, Loren.  Or did you not even consider how any of this would effect me.”

Loren – “God have you always been so selfish.  You left her.  You got to screw around with her for three months and then in the end you decided that you didn’t want her.  She was devastated.  Do you have any idea how hard it was for her not to tell you?  But she didn’t because she thought she couldn’t trust you anymore.”  Kevin comes up behind Brian.

Kevin – “Will you excuse us a second please.”  Brian goes back in to the room and Kevin joins Loren in the hall.  “Did I actually hear you bring up trust.”

Loren – “Kevin please let me explain.”

Kevin – “No.  Loren we are supposed to be getting married and I’m beginning to feel like I don’t even know you.  First there was that thing with Chad.”

Loren – “I thought we were passed that.”

Kevin – “I did too.  But if you can keep something as important as Jessica being pregnant and having Brian’s kid, I can’t help but wonder what else you could lie to me about.”

Loren – “I didn’t lie to you.”

He continues as if he didn’t hear her, “You know I kept wondering how I always kept missing her, when she would come visit you.”

Loren – “I want to tell you but she made me promise not to.”

Kevin – “Well maybe some promises were meant to be broken.”

Loren – “What are you saying?”

Kevin – “I’m not sure if I can marry you after all of this.”

Loren – “What!”

Kevin – “I don’t think I can be with some one who I don’t trust.”

She’s not sure when the tears started but they are running down her face.  “You know what.  Fuck you Kevin.  You are such a hypocrite.  When Brian chose Christine over Jessica you gave me a lecture about supporting our family no matter what.  And as soon as I did that exact thing you say you can’t trust me.  So fuck you Kevin.”  She takes off her ring and throws it and him and then runs down the hall.

Kevin cusses at himself and then picks up the ring before going back in the room.  AJ, Nick, Howie and Brian all stare at him.  “I suppose you all heard that.”

Nick – “Kind of hard not to.”

Howie – “Didn’t even have to put our ears to the door this time.”

Kevin – “yeah well I guess that wedding is cancelled.”

AJ – “What?  You’re going after her right.  I mean no offense Brian I don’t mean to make what Jess did seem like it wasn’t important, but Kevin you’re not going to lose Loren over this are you.  I mean this really has nothing to do with you guys.  It’s Jess and Brian’s problem.  Let them handle it.”

Kevin – “I don’t know.” He looks at Brian.

Brian – “Kev.  You and Loren belong together.  Even though I’m mad at her, I still want you to marry her.  You love her, you should be with the one you love.”

Kevin gets up, “I’ll call you guys later.” And leaves.

Howie – “So Brian, now what are you going to do?”

Brian – “I have no idea.”

Nick – “Do you think it would be okay if we went and saw Jess and the boys.”  Brian smiles at Nick.  He could tell that Nick was wanting to run out the room and to my side like he always has.

Brian – “Yeah go ahead.  I’m actually surprised you’re still here.”

Nick – “Let’s go.”

AJ – “I’m driving.”

Howie – “Are you coming?”

Brian – “No I think I need to by myself for a little bit.  Then I have to call Christine and go pick up my parents.”

Nick – “Alright man Catch ya later.”

Kevin finds Loren at her parents’ house.  Tristan was over playing with a neighbor kid so she was sitting out on the swing in the backyard.  He comes up behind her and slowly starts to push her.  She had been crying so she let him for a few minutes before putting her feet down and stopping the swing.

Loren – “Are you here to get your stuff?”

Kevin – “No I’m here to say I’m sorry.”  He comes around the front of the swing.  “I didn’t mean it babe.  I was just hurt.  I felt like you couldn’t trust me.”  She goes to talk.  “But I understand that you where just trying to protect Jessica.  I love you and I want to still marry you.  That is if you still want to marry me.”

Loren – “Of course I do.  But Kevin I can’t have you always throwing things up in my face.  You obviously are still hurt about the thing with Chad’s note.”

Kevin – “That’s just my own insecurities coming out.  I trust you Lor.  I shouldn’t have said I didn’t.”

She reaches out and hugs him.  “Let’s just make a deal now okay.”

Kevin – “Anything.”

Loren – “It’s going to get really crazy with Jessica and Brian trying to get this all sorted out.  Let’s not pick sides and let’s not let it get between us again.”

Kevin – “I think we can do that.”

Loren – “So is Brian now refusing to be in our wedding.”

Kevin – “No actually he told me to come after you.  But I don’t think Christine will be so willing to have you in theirs.”

Loren – “Oh boo hoo.”

Kevin – “Yeah I can’t tell that breaks your heart.  Where’s Tristan?”

Loren – “Over at Robbie’s.”

Kevin – “Why don’t we get him and go to Chuck E. Cheese.”

Loren – “Okay.”
