There's something about those boybands.

Chapter Ninety Seven

We sit for a little bit just listening to the radio.  “So what did you think of my house?”

Brian – “I liked your house over by the school better.”

Me – “yeah well I want something bigger.”  I didn’t want to tell him that everything there reminded me of him.

Brian – “Well it is that.  I love the view of the ocean it’s beautiful.”

Me – “It’s kinda what sold me on the house.  That and the gazebo in the back yard.  It reminds me of my Grammie V’s over in Scotland.”

Brian – “How are they taking everything?”

Me – “Well, I’m not sure they’re going to be here tomorrow so I guess we’ll find out then.”

Brian – “Great I’m looking forward to it.”

Me – “My grandfather doesn’t hate you, you know.”

Brian – “Well I’m mot exactly your dad’s favorite person so I can imagine your grandfather shares close to the same opinion.”

Me – “Gramps makes his own opinion of people you’ll see.”

We get back to the house and there was a message from my mom.

Goldie – “hey sweetie it’s mom.  I tried your cell but I guess you didn’t have it with you.  Unfortunately no one is going to be able to make it out to your house tonight.  All of us have press tails and it’s impossible to shake them.  So I called Jackie and we are just going to head home for the night and then try to come over tomorrow.  If you and Brian have any trouble give one of us a call and we’ll be there lickity split as Jackie says.  Bye honey love you.  Kiss kiss boys.  Good night Brian.”

Brian – “hey she actually remembered me.”

Me – “Well let’s get the boys upstairs.”  We go up and put the boys in their crib.  “I guess I’ll have to get another one later this week.”

Brian – “Well I’m sure they’re fine for now.”  We stand and watch them for a couple minutes.  Brian puts his arm around my shoulders.  “It’s hard to believe we made them.”

Me – “I know.  They’re so perfect.”

Brian – “Come on let’s get something to eat.”

Me – “Actually I’m kind of tired I think I’m going to go to sleep.  You can just make yourself at home.”  I go to my room and shut the door.  I need a moment to myself, having Brian around again was playing havoc on my nerves.  I changed in to a big tee shirt and crawled in bed.  I was almost asleep when Brian knocked.  “Yeah.”

He opens the door.  “Sorry but I kind of noticed that you only have one TV and it’s in here.  Do you mind?  I’ll keep it low.”

Me – “Oh yeah sure go ahead.”

Brian – “Thanks.”  He comes in and sits on the floor by the little coffee table I have by the couch in my room.  He pops the tab on his soda.  “Sorry.”  Then he starts eating chips and I can hear the crunching.

I sit up and look at him.  “Brian you have got to be kidding me.”

Brian – “I’m sorry.”  He looks at the sandwich he made.  “It’s roast beef and turkey.  Your favorite wanna a bite?”  He gave me his most adorable look.  The one he knows I hate because it makes me do what ever he wants.

Me – “Sure.”  I get out of bed and sit on the couch.  He tears the sandwich in half and hands it to me on a napkin.  We spend the rest of the night watching TV.  Me sitting on the couch and him sitting on the floor.  Some where during Street Smarts I fell asleep.  He picks me up and puts me in bed.  Then lays down on the couch.  We sleep for about two hours until Noah wakes up and wakes up Tommy and both of them are crying in chorus.  We both get up.  Brian goes to get the bottles and I calm the kids down.  He comes back up and takes Noah and I feed Tommy.

After the boys are burped and put back to bed we go back to my room.  I look at the couch.

Me – “Is it still comfy?”

Brian – “Yeah.  I was afraid that if I slept down the hall I won’t hear the boys when they woke up.”

Me – “Oh okay well I’m going back to bed.  If you promise to stay on your side you can join me.”

Brian – “Think that’s a good idea.” He has his hands in his pockets and is looking at the floor.

Me – “Let me put it to you this way Brian.  I can’t have sex until my check-up and that’s in a month.  This is as safe as it gets.”  He grins.  “Now I’m tired good night.”

I lay down and he lies down on his side of the bed and soon we are both asleep.

The next morning the phone rings at 8:15.  Brian reaches over me and answers it.  “Hello?”

Nick – “Morning Rok.”

Brian – “Nick what do you want?”  He rolls on his back.  I am still sleeping but I scoot towards him.

Nick – “To say good morning and see what you guys are doing today.”

Brian – “Nick the boys wake up every 3 hours to eat we are probably going to be spending the majority of our time trying to adjust to their schedule.”  Without thinking he puts his arm around me and pulls me close.

Nick – “Well think of it this way, its better then how you were supposed to be spending today.”

Brian – “Really and how was that.”

Nick – “I can’t believe I remember and you don’t.  Well if you ever needed a sign that you did the right thing I guess this would be it.  It’s your wedding day dude.”

Brian had completely lost track of his days and since he had broken up with Christine the wedding and all the chaos around it had vanished from his mind.  “Rok you there?”

Brian – “Yeah I’m here.”

Nick – “So I think that we should do something to celebrate your close brush with unholy matrimony?”

Brian laughs, “Maybe we’ll see.  I will have to see if Jessica has plans and I don’t really want to leave her by herself yet.”

Me – “I don’t need you to take care of me.”

Brian – “When did you wake up?”

Me – “Just now.”  I’m still a little sleepy so without thinking I move closer into his arms.

Brian – “We’ll have to call you back Nick.”  He hangs up and sits the phone down.  “Good Morning.”

Me – “Morning.  Did you sleep good?”

Brian – “For the 2 hours at a time I got to yes, how about you?”

Me – “I am really glad to be home.”  It occurs to me then that he has his arm around me.  “Oh I’m sorry.”  I move to my side of the bed.

Brian – “That’s okay.  So I am going to call the hotel and see if someone can bring my bags over and then I am going to get cleaned up.”

Me – “Okay, what did Nick want so early in the morning?”

Brian hesitates, “to remind me it is my wedding day.”

I sit up and look at him, he has his back to me so I can’t see his face.  “Brian…”

Brian – “I’ll be okay Jessica.”  He turns and looks at me,  “I just can’t believe that I was able to forget that it was today so quick.  Do you think it means anything?”

Me – “I think it means that you have had a lot change on you in the past few days, it doesn’t surprise me that you didn’t remember.  Either that or you’re going senile at an early age.

Brian – “Well if I am you are only a few weeks behind me.”  He throws his pillow on my head as he gets up.  “I’m going to check on the kids.”  He starts to walk out.

Me – “Okay I’m going to get in the shower.”

Brian – “Oh hey what do you have planned for tonight?”

Me – “Nothing.”

Brian – “Nick wants to celebrate me not getting married.  It’s kind of scary that he is so excited about me not marrying Chris.”

I don’t say anything, even though I want to.  “Well you are more then welcome to go.  I however am not up for going anywhere.”

Brian – “Well I figured that.  I was wondering if it would be okay if you know… everyone came over here.”

I am up and out of bed and looking through my drawers for some comfy clothes.  “I don’t care, but they better not expect some huge party.”  I find my clothes and go in the bathroom.  The tears start as the door closes.

“Jessica?”  He is just on the other side of the door.  His voice is soft and low.  “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“No you’re not.  I can hear you crying?”  I hear him lean against the door.  I can picture him standing there with his forehead against it.  “Do you want to talk about it?”

“Brian I’m just an emotional mess right now, one minute I’m happy you’re here and the next I just want you to leave me alone.”

“Do you want me to go?”

“No.”

“Good, I think the boys are awake.  Can we talk more later?”

“Yeah my family will be at 11.”

“Okay after then, and we will play it by ear with everyone coming over.”

“Thanks Brian.”
