Chapter Seventy-one

The day of the awards

Jess - "I can't find my other shoe!" Lance is at her apartment.

It's still the morning of the show but they decided it would be easier if Jess got ready at his hotel instead of him picking her up here.  She had everything she needed except for this stupid shoe that is hiding from her.  Her apartment is even more of a wreck because of the mad search.

Lance - "I'm sure its here some where. Where did you last see it?"

Jess - "In my bedroom. I was trying on my dress and... my closet!"

Lance - "Oh no."  She goes in and opens her closet. Its a huge walk in that should be declared a disaster area.  She rummages through the shoe pile. "You're never going to find anything in there we'll just get you a new pair."  She holds up the shoe triumphantly.

Jess - "A-ha! Okay lets go. I'm starved can we swing through Wendy's?"

Lance - "Yeah I think we have time."

Jess - "Oh that's right you have to go do a run through of the show. Nevermind, just drop me at the hotel and I'll get something there."

Lance - "You sure?"

Jess - "Yes I'm sure. Come on or we're going to be late."

Well he literally does drops her off and leaves. Chris was waiting for him to go to the Met.  Jess headed up to his room.  She dropped off her dress and called Kevin's room. They were all staying in the same hotel and she knew Loren was in his room.

Loren - "Hello?"

Jess - "Hey want to get some lunch?"

Loren - "Sure when are you going to get here?"

Jess - "I'm in Lance's room I can met you down stairs."

Loren - "Okay see you in a few." They actually met in the elevator because Backstreet is above Nsync. A fact Nick pointed out to Jess, saying that's how things are supposed to be.  They go to the hotel coffee shop and order some salads. "Christine's not coming."

Jess - "And you're telling me this because?"

Loren - "No reason just thought you would like to know."

Jess - "Uh huh."

Loren - "Okay I still want you and Brian to be together so shoot me.  You should have heard how happy Brian was when you said that you forgave him. He felt just awful after the two of you fought."

Jess - "Well he should have. He knows me better then to think I would just let him talk about Lance."

Loren - "Speaking of, how is he?"

Jess - "Good."  Her two-way pager beeps. "Excuse me a sec. Oh its Brit, I'm going to invite her down."

Loren - "okay. Tell her I said hi."

Jess - "Oh she's at rehearsal too, I knew that. I'm going to met her later."

Loren - "Isn't she going with Justin?"

Jess - "No. They still don't want the public to know they're seeing each other."

Loren - "So we were talking about Lance."

Jess - "What about him?"

Loren - "You're happy with him right."

Jess - "Of course I am. What are you getting at?"

Loren - "Nothing its just..."

Jess - "Just what?"  Loren sees that Jess is getting agaited so decides to change the subject.

Loren - "Just nothing. Hey Kevin's back." He comes over and kisses her cheek before sitting down. "Hey' how was the run through?"

Kevin - "Good. Nick and Summer will be down in a second. Jessica you look lovely as usual."

Jess - "Thanks Kev."  She gives him a big smile.  "So what song are you guys doing?"

Kevin - "I want it that way and Larger then Life. I saw Lance before I left he said to tell you that he might be running late."

Jess - "Oh okay was there some problem?"

Kevin - "No everything is just running behind schedule like usual. I saw your boy Brad there he was trying to get things back on track."

Up in Nick's room Summer was dragging her feet.

Summer - "I'm still nervous she's like one of your best friends.  What if she hates me?"

Nick - "Come on she's not going to hate you.  You guys are a lot a like."

Summer - "Really."  They are in the elevator.

Nick - "Yeah you are both smart and cute and funny."

Summer - "You sound like you have a crush on her."

Nick - "I used to a little bit but she's just like a big sister to me now."

Summer - "You know you're not really helping my nerves at all."

Then Jess saw them over Kevins shoulder.

Jess - "Thats Nick's new girlfriend?"

Kevin - "Yeah she's a great kid."

Jess - "She's so cute."  They get to the table.  "What have you done to your hair." He still hasn't cut it.

Nick - "What you don't like it?"  He tucks it behind his ears.

Jess - "It's just that its different."

Nick - "I wanted something different."  He pulls out Summer's chair and she sits next to Loren.

Jess - "Its definitely that. I just realized who you look like. Bad Ass Billy Gunn from the WWF." Kevin starts chuckling to himself. "What he does."

Kevin - "Brian said the same thing today."

Jess - "Oh." She starts giggling. "Well great minds must think alike." Nick looks hurt. "I'm sorry Nick I'm just use to you looking a little more neat I guess. I'm sure it'll grow on me." AJ gets to the table.

AJ - "Howdy all."  He kisses all the ladies cheeks before sitting next to Jess.

Kevin - "Hopefully it won't last that long."

AJ - "What won't last that long?"

Summer - "Nick's hair."

AJ - "It is pretty bad dude."

Nick - "Shut up." The waitress comes with Loren and Jesss salads and takes their orders. "A salad are you on a diet or something?"

Jess - "No, its just that my dress is kinda tight and I don't want to eat anything thats going to get me all bloated."

AJ - "Girl, I don't think you have an ounce of fat on you."

Jess - "Wanna bet. Feel my ass."

AJ - "Really can I?"

Jess - "Sure." She gets up and sticks out her butt at him. He goes to touch it.

Kevin - "Will you two knock it off."  She sits down.

Jess - "You're no fun."  Summer is giggling as Brian walks up to the table.

Kevin - "Hey if you want people lining up to feel your ass go ahead."

Brian - "We're lining up to feel Jesss ass.  I'm in."

Jess - "No we're not. I take it back."

Brian - "Damn I'm always late."

Jess - "Then you should wake up earlier."

Brian - "Wake up early for what?"

Jess - "What?"

Brian - "What are we talking about?"

Jess - "I don't know. I've got a hair appointment see you guys later."  She gets up and leaves.

Brian - "What was that all about?"

Loren - "If you don't know how should we."

Brian - "You're related to her shouldn't that give you some insight."

Loren - "I stopped trying to figure her out when she started a lemonade stand in the middle of winter."

Kevin - "A lemonade stand in winter?"

Loren -  "Don't ask, something about supply and demand."

Summer - "Makes sense to me."

AJ - "It would."  She sticks her tounge out at him.  They finish their lunches and then get ready for the show.
