Chapter Fifty-One

In the truck.

Summer - "I'm sorry about that."

Nick - "That's okay I wasn't thinking. You look very nice."

Summer - "Thank you again for like the fourth time."

Nick - "Hey I was told to always compliment a girl if you think she looks nice. And sometime when she doesn't."

Summer - "Oh yeah and who told you that."

Nick - "Howie."

Summer - "You always go to him for advice on girls."

Nick - "Well not exactly. When I was like 17 or something I started dating this girl and the guys all gave me advice on women one night."

Summer - "Oh this should be good."

Nick - "they all have some different views on women that's for sure."

Summer - "Well come on don't keep me in suspense what did they say."

Nick - 'Well Howie told me to tell them that they look nice. Kevin said to never lie or at least don't get caught lying. And Brian said that you should always make them laugh."

Summer - "And AJ?"

Nick - "You really want to know."

Summer - "Yeah. I'm afraid, but yeah."

Nick - "Not to get them knocked up." She laughs.

Summer - "he would say that."

Nick - "But when I met you I got a completely different advice from him."

Summer - "What did he say."

Nick - "I'm not allowed to touch you. He was thinking about coming with as a chaperon."

Summer thinks about them making out in the car. "After last night that might not be a bad idea."

He looks at her then pulls the car over. "What's up?"

Summer - "Nothing."

Nick - "Hey if it's about last night. I'm sorry we don't have to do that again."

Summer - "No that's not it." She starts blushing. "I liked last night. I just, I don't know. It's like when I'm with you a forget myself. I forget about my dad and school and Brett. I just love being with you in the moment. Nothing else seems important right then. It's kind of scary for me."

Nick - "Well I don't want you to be scared but I feel the same way. When I'm with you I'm not Nick Carter. I'm just Nick." He takes her hand. "I can't remember the last time I was able to be me with anyone, even my family."

Summer - "This conversation's getting kind of heavy, maybe we should just go get something to eat."

Nick - "Okay."

They spent that whole weekend together. Summer was really nervous that some one was going to find out what she was up to but wasn't going to go without seeing Nick. She didn't tell Ginger every time she was going out with Nick so some times she just didn't tell anyone where she was going. On Sunday she took him back to the airport for his flight home. They sat and waited up by his gate talking about all the stuff they had done.

Nick - "You know if you where a guy you'd be my best friend."

Summer - "If I was a guy I'd be gay. I really like you Nick." He reaches over and holds her hand.

Nick - "I like you too." He wants to tell her he loves her but he knows it's just too soon and she'd get freaked out.

Summer - "This sucks. The weekend went by too quick."

Nick - "Yeah it did." They sit there both thinking about him leaving. She rests her head on his shoulder. "I can't do this. I can't leave you. Come to Orlando with me?"

Summer - "Nick I can't. My brother's getting in on Wendesday and I've been like avoiding my dad all weekend."

Nick - "Just for a few days."

Summer - "Yeah then we would be right back here. Except I would be leaving you. You think me leaving would be easier."

Nick - "No I just. I don't want to go a day with out seeing you or talking to you."

Summer - "Oh wait." She digs in her purse. "Here." She give him the picture.

Nick - "You always carry pictures of yourself around with you."

Summer - "No I meant to give it to you when you first got here. AJ told me that you took an old picture he had of me, so I thought I give you a newer one."

Nick - "Not exactly what I wanted but it might help. There's no way I can talk you into coming home with me."

Summer - "It's not that I don't want to. I'd love to go home with you. But it's too soon." They call his flight. "I guess that's it."

Nick - "Yeah." He stands up and pulls her to stand in front of him. He puts his hands on either side of her neck and makes her look at him. "I am going to miss you so much."

Summer - "I'll miss you too." He kisses her softly.

Nick - "Call me if you change your mind."

Summer - "Only if I change my mind."

Nick - "No call me any time you want."

Summer - "I will." He kisses her again and then holds her tight. Summer is fighting back her tears. "I'll call you tonight."

Nick - "Okay. bye." He lets go and steps away.

Summer - "Bye."

She waits for his plane to take off and then drives home. Hugh was sitting on the couch watching soccer.

Hugh - "Hey stranger. Where have you been?"

Summer - "I had to drop a friend at the airport."

Hugh - "Oh well Brett called and your sister called."

Summer - "Okay."

Hugh - "You alright sweetie."

Summer - "Yeah I'm just not feeling too good."

Hugh - "Come here." He pats the couch next to him. Summer sits down and he feels her forehead. "You've probably just got too much sun and water. I mean you were at the beach with your friends all weekend."

Summer - "Yeah I'm just going to go upstairs and get some rest."

Hugh - "Good idea. I'll make something light for dinner. You are going to be home aren't you."

Summer - "Yeah."

Summer goes upstairs and fall asleep hugging her pillow and wishing that she went with Nick.
